چکیده

Multihomed environments are getting increasingly common, especially for mobile users. mHIP was designed to provide secure multipath data transmission for the multihomed hosts and boost throughput of a single TCP connection by effectively distributing data over multiple available paths. In this paper we develop a TCP-friendly congestion control scheme for mHIP secure multipath scheduling solution. We enable two-level control over aggressiveness of the multipath flows to prevent stealing bandwidth from the traditional transport connections in the shared bottleneck. We demonstrate how to achieve a desired level of friendliness at the expense of inessential performance degradation. A series of simulations verifies that the proposed congestion control for mHIP meets the criteria of TCP-compatibility, TCP-equivalence and TCP-equal share, preserving friendliness to UDP and another mHIP traffic.

Improving Efficiency-Friendliness Tradeoffs of TCP: Robustness to Router Buffer Capacity Variations

In this paper, we propose a new version of TCPW (TCP-Westwood) to (1) maintain friendliness to widely used protocols, such as TCP-Reno, as well as (2) improve efficiency in mixed wired-wireless networks with non-negligible random packet losses due to link errors. In addition to significant efficiency gains, TCPW has been shown to be unfriendly to existing protocols under certain RTT and/or rout...

Effects of Red Dynamics on Tcp-friendliness of Rate-based Control Protocol

In this work, we study how TCP-friendliness of a ratebased control protocol is affected by the different parameterisation of RED. We also explore the range of optimal RED parameter values for ensuring the TCP-friendliness of the competing connections. We choose TCP-Friendly Rate Control (TFRC) protocol [5] as the competing source againsts TCP Sack. Our results show that different RED parameteri...

S-shaped TCP: A transport protocol for improving the performance of TCP in fast long-distance networks

It is well known that TCP does not fully utilize the available bandwidth in fast long-distance networks. This paper proposes S-shaped TCP (SS-TCP). The window growth function of SS-TCP is, in the steady state condition, S-shaped, and it can be divided into three regions. In region I, the window growth rate of SS-TCP is the same as that of standard TCP (STD-TCP). In region II, the window of SS-T...

Adaptive TCP for Effective and Fair Utilization of High Bandwidth-Delay Product Networks

The fairness (or TCP-friendliness) of recent high-speed TCP proposals for high bandwidth-delay product networks is generally poor. We believe that the lack of the TCP-friendliness of high-speed TCP proposals stems from their ineffectiveness in detecting competing TCP ¤ows. We suggest a competition detection mechanism for a single TCP ¤ow to detect the presence of competing TCP ¤ows and propose ...

A New TCP-Friendly Rate Control Algorithm for Scalable Video Streams

This paper presents Mediaand TCP-Friendly Rate Control Algorithm (i.e. MTFRC) for scalable video streams. We develop a twotimescale approach to satisfy media friendliness in the short-term, while maintaining TCP friendliness in the long-term. We evaluate MTFRC with five criteria, namely TCP-fairness, responsiveness, aggressiveness, video quality and smoothness of sending rate. Our simulation re...
